Murder Suspect’s Father Drives Car Into Crowd of Onlookers

Here’s a tip: If you stumble upon a crime scene where a group of men got into a fight that escalated into a fatal shooting, you probably shouldn’t linger there too long.

It may seem like a pretty basic concept, but about 100 people in Houston didn’t get it on Wednesday. The consequence? The alleged shooter’s father reportedly hopped in a car and drove it through the crowd, nearly hitting dozens of people.

The Houston Chronicle reported that the incident took place while police investigated a shooting that left one man dead and another injured. The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. After about four hours, a crowd had gathered around the crime scene to watch investigators work. It was then that a silver car showed up with a driver hell-bent on scaring the daylights out of some people.

With news crews in place to cover the shooting, there’s more than enough video of onlookers running in terror as they became the center of a crime scene all their own.

The video shows that police eventually stopped the car and pulled out the driver and a female passenger. A report from KTRK-TV in Houston said the passenger was Deshonna Smith, the driver’s fiancee. She claimed some members of the crowd harassed them and threw a bicycle at their car before it escalated when someone punched the driver.

KTRK reported the driver has been charged with aggravated assault.
