Watch: UCSB Victim’s Father Speaks Out

The father of a 20-year-old killed in late Friday’s horrific mass shooting at the University of California Santa Barbara held a brief but emotional press conference outside of the county’s sheriff’s department Saturday.

Richard Martinez’s son Christopher was a sophomore at the school, and was among seven dead in the attacks.

“Our son Christopher Martinez and six others are dead,’’ he told reporters. “Our family has a message for every parent out there: you don’t think it will happen to your child, until it does. Chris was a really great kid — you can ask anyone who knew him. His death has left our family lost and broken.’’

“Why did Chris die?’’ He continued, his voice audibly shaking with grief and anger. “Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA. They talk about gun rights — what about Chris’s right to live? When will this insanity stop? When will enough people say: stop this madness, we don’t have to live like this? Too many have died. We should say to ourselves, not one more.’’
