James “Whitey’’ Bulger was transferred from an Arizona federal prison to one in Florida.

According to The Boston Globe, Bulger was transferred from the Tucson prison he has lived in since January to a high security penitentiary in Sumterville, Florida. WPRI reports that he was moved on August 29, but that a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson would not give a reason for the switch.

Bulger’s attorneys, who did not respond to The Globe’s request for comment, filed an appeal in August.

The notorious gangster was found guilty of 31 charges, including participating in 11 murders, racketeering, and drug trafficking in August 2013. In November, he was sentenced to two life sentences plus five years. He turned 85 on Wednesday.
