The City of Ferguson, Missouri made public a number of racist and otherwise offensive emails Friday that were referenced in a Department of Justice report released last month.
The emails were obtained by The Guardian after the newspaper filed a public information request.
The jokes, which range from derogatory takes on President Barack Obama, women, people of color, pedophilia, and immigrants, led to the resignation of two police officers and the dismissal of a Ferguson court clerk last month.
One 2008 email from the now-resigned Capt. Richard Henke muses that “we shouldn’t worry about [Obama] being president very long because what black man holds a steady job for four years?’’
Another, from court clerk Mary Ann Twitty, compares Obama to a chimp.
