Kayla Escalante, whose body was found at the home of a Springfield man accused of kidnapping, is being remembered by her loved ones for her “abundant love.”

“She was loved by many and was extremely influential to others,” the Ludlow woman’s family wrote in her obituary. “She always put others first and was a selfless person. She was with us then, and she is with us now and she will be with us forever.”

The 27-year-old’s body was one of three sets of female remains found by investigators “on and around” the property at 1333 Page Blvd. on May 31 and June 1.

Funeral services for Escalante are planned for Thursday in Indian Orchard. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to a fund to support Escalante’s daughter.

Kayla Jeanne Escalante, 27, of Ludlow, Massachusetts, passed away this spring. Her death was unforeseen and tragic.

Kayla, daughter of Michael Escalante and Laurie A. Higgins Escalante, was born on a beautiful spring day in Springfield, Massachusetts, on May 30, 1991. She attended local schools, including Cathedral High School and Ludlow High School, receiving her GED from the OWL program in Springfield, Massachusetts. She will be missed by her heartbroken mother and father, Laurie and Michael. Her brothers, Robert Escalante and Jason Escalante; her sister, Crystal Escalante; paternal grandparents, Betty and Joe Escalante; and many cousins, aunts and uncles. Most importantly she will be missed by her sweet daughter. Calling hours for Kayla will be held on Wednesday, June 13th, from 4pm to 7pm at the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard, MA 01151. The Family invites you to join them on Thursday, June 14th, at 11am at Ratell Funeral Home for a Celebration of Life for Kayla followed by burial of her ashes at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Berkshire Avenue, Indian Orchard, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Escalante Family c/o Ratell Funeral home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard, MA 01151 (Please specify “Escalante Education fund”) so an Educational / Trust fund can be set up for her daughter.  Kayla will forever be in all of our lives spiritually, when you close your eyes you will see her gorgeous smile and feel her abundant love. She was loved by many and was extremely influential to others. She always put others first and was a selfless person. She was with us then, and she is with us now and she will be with us forever. Kayla was predeceased by her beloved Mémère, Jeanne M. Higgins and great Pépère.
