Ward 10 Democrats endorse Mike Ross in Boston mayor’s race

City Councilor Mike Ross has scored the endorsement of the Ward 10 Democratic Committee, which represents parts of his home district in Mission Hill and Jamaica Plain.

“We chose Mike because of his long record of service to Ward 10. We look forward to publicizing our endorsement at the polls on election day, and providing volunteers to help get the word out about Mike between now and then,’’ Craig Lankhorst, committee chairman, said in a statement.

While Ross was expected to win the endorsement, it was not a cake walk. Fellow candidates, including John Connolly, Martin J. Walsh, Charlotte Golar Richie, Charles Yancey, Dan Conley, Charles Clemens, and Bill Walczak attended Tuesday night’s meeting and sought the committee’s backing.

The endorsement comes in what has been a busy period for Ross. Over the weekend, he released a robust education plan. Then, on Tuesday, he put out his first television ad of the campaign.

“I’m honored to have the support of the Ward 10 Committee, and I look forward to working with them in the weeks ahead.’’ Ross said in a statement. “Grassroots support will be key to this campaign, and it’s great to have the support of people whom I’ve known for so long.’’
