The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts has chosen not to endorse a candidate in the 2013 mayoral race, the group’s leader says.
While the organization considers both Martin J. Walsh and John R. Connolly supportive of comprehensive sexuality education, it would like to see the candidates demonstrate leadership in issues like teenage pregnancy, high school dropouts, and high rates of sexually transmitted infections, said fund president Martha “Marty’’ Walz.
“These are all interrelated issues,’’ she said. “How will they address those issues as mayor?’’
This is the first time the advocacy fund — the political arm of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts — considered endorsing a candidate in a mayoral election, said Walz, a former state representative.
The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund is endorsing some candidates in Boston’s City Council contests, backing Jack Kelly III and incumbent Ayanna Pressley for at-large seats, and incumbent Mark Ciommo in the District 9 election.
