After months of campaigning solely in front of large crowds, Donald Trump made his first retail stop Monday in New Hampshire at Manchester’s Red Arrow Diner.
According to ABC News, Trump’s surprise lunch stop was received well by the other patrons in the narrow eatery — with one exception.
“Enjoy your burger, racist!’’ a young woman, who identified herself only as Jane, shouted before walking out of the restaurant.
“I’m really struck by his racism and Islamophobia,’’ she told ABC News’ Brad Mielke, once outside the restaurant. “I wanted to make sure people remembered that he is racist, and that he’s using it to rally voters.’’
Jane said she was visiting from South Carolina and was previously unaware the Republican presidential candidate would be making a stop at the diner.
Otherwise, Trump enjoyed his meal at the local New Hampshire institution.
“This is great food,’’ he said, per the Wall Street Journal. “I love this kind of food.’’
Trump reportedly ordered the “Newton Burger,’’ a burger topped with fried mac and cheese and cheese sauce between two grilled cheese sandwiches instead of buns, with a side of fries.
According to the Journal, Trump did not (could not?) immediately finish the meal.
ABC News reported he also ordered a Diet Coke, despite his past opposition to the beverage. But hey, maybe he’s trying to cut back on carbs.
