Ed Markey slams FBI investigation into Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh

“It’s obviously a cover up.”

Sen. Ed Markey blasted the FBI investigation into the allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh during an appearance on CNN Thursday morning.

“It’s obviously a cover up,” the Massachusetts Democrat said. “The Trump White House working with the Republican leadership in the Senate deliberately circumscribed this investigation so that only a small handful of people will be questioned. And if any leads are in fact developed, the FBI is not allowed to follow them in order to determine the truth of what happened.”

“This is making a mockery of the constitutional responsibility of the Senate,” Markey added later.

Markey’s criticism followed the early morning confidential release of the FBI’s findings. Neither Christine Blasey Ford, who testified last week before the Senate Judiciary Committee that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were both teenagers during the 1980s at a high school party, or Kavanaugh were interviewed as part of the investigation. A vote on his nomination is set for Friday.
