With the unveiling of the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch earlier this month, everyone’s on the lookout for the next big technological advancement.
A new project on Kickstarter has introduced the idea of a device that looks like an iPhone, feels like an iPhone but has one small difference: It’s not a phone.
The spoof project was “created’’ in New York City and describes itself like this:
With a thin, light and completely wireless design, the NoPhone acts as a surrogate to any smart mobile device, enabling you to always have a rectangle of smooth, cold plastic to clutch without forgoing any potential engagement with your direct environment. Never again experience the unsettling feeling of flesh on flesh when closing your hand.
Even better – the NoPhone is shatterproof, waterproof, and will never run out of battery life.
At only $12, backers will receive a free shipping of the NoPhone. For only a few dollars more, supporters can even order the NoPhone Selfie Upgrade which includes a rectangular mirror on the front of the block. It’s not quite a screen, but it certainly will serve selfie culture.
As of this writing, the project has already raised a little more than $3,600 toward their $30,000 goal. This is probably not surprising, considering the obscene success of a potato salad project on Kickstarter earlier this summer.
