The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy posted this video of a shark off Chatham’s South Beach, taken by Catherine Shakin, to their Facebook page on Thursday (warning: someone in the background uses a bit of strong language, as people who are surprised by sharks sometimes do).
The group later tweeted an underwater photo of the shark shown in the video:
This isn’t the first sighting off of the cape this summer. A biologist with the state’s Division of Marine and Fisheries told The Boston Globe that there were “well over a dozen’’ shark sightings this year. Back in June, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy spotted a 12-14 foot Great White from the air off the coast of Orleans in what was the season’s first sighting.
