August 9 marks a year since the death of Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager who was fatally shot by a white police officer, Darren Wilson, in Ferguson, Missouri. His killing sparked weeks of protests — locally and across the country — and a national dialogue about the relationship between police and minority communities.

Protests also erupted in the St. Louis suburb after the announcement was made on November 24, 2014, that the Missouri Grand Jury would not indict Wilson for the shooting.
