Police investigate New Year’s Day sexual assault in Dorchester

Boston police are investigating a report that a woman was sexually assaulted in Dorchester early New Year’s Day.

Officers responded to the call, which came in around 6:45 a.m. At the scene, a 29-year-old woman told them the man who assaulted her in the area of Annabel Street and Columbia Road grabbed her from behind and told her he had a weapon, police said.

According to police, the her attacker was described as, “a black male (possibly Cape Verdean), approximately 25 years old, 5’7’’-5’11’’ with a thin build and a goatee.’’

The suspect also may have been wearing a black jacket over a pink shirt and black pants.

“The Boston Police Department will stringently guard and protect the identities of those who wish to help this investigation anonymously,’’ police said in a statement.
