A new regulation approved by the state medical board on Thursday would require surgeons to document each time they leave and enter an operating room, The Boston Globe reports.
The unanimous approval of the new regulation follows reports by the Globe’s Spotlight team about double-booked operations at Massachusetts General Hospital.
“We have heard various concerns in the past few months from various sources,’’ Dr. Candace Lapidus Sloane, chair of the board, told the Globe. “We look at cases and situations, and we try to learn from them.’’
The new regulation is one of a series of changes approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine after Governor Charlie Baker issued an executive order in March directing all state agencies to review their policies, according to the Globe.
