Boston police identify officer who was shot in the leg

The Boston police officer who was shot Friday morning is in stable condition and continues to recover, police said in a statement.

Police identified the officer on Saturday as Kurt Stokinger, a nine-year veteran in the department. He is the father of a 7-year-old and 4-year-old daughter, according to Boston police.

“All indications are positive and we can continue to pray for him,’’ said Commissioner William Evans in a statement.

Police said Stokinger was shot in the leg by Grant Headley, 27, of Dorchester during a traffic stop on Friday.
