The storm from Washington, D.C. to space

Millions of people across the eastern United States are dealing with the effects of a winter storm bringing blizzard conditions, massive snowfall, and coastal flooding to areas in its path.

The historic storm — including rare thundersnow — was visible to astronauts on the International Space Station:

The large amount of snow brought out winter modes of transportation — like snowmobiles and dogsleds — in unusual areas:

More than 10 states declared states of emergency by Saturday afternoon, with Washington D.C. declaring a “snow emergency.’’

But even as the nation’s capital dealt with the foot of snow received overnight, there was at least one resident overjoyed with the fluffy stuff.
