This Medford mall is closing, and the photos are really depressing

Almost 37 years of retail, reduced to empty storefronts.

Meadow Glen Mall in Medford first opened its doors 37 years ago. Now, it’s about to close them.

While the Marshalls and Kohl’s that bookend the strip mall will remain standing, the 40 or so “non-anchor’’ stores will be moving on as the mall undergoes construction, according to WCVB.

Somerville resident Ron Newman decided to take a trip to Meadow Glen to snap a few photos of the mall in its final days of glory. As you might expect, the results are pretty depressing.

Some of the stores’ names alone tell you how old they are, like The Peoples Electronics Store.

Newman estimated only 40% of the stores were still open, and were selling everything they could.

If you squint hard enough, you can just barely make out “Old Country Buffet.’’

From Newman: “This is inside the closed store whose exterior sign just says ‘Furniture.’’’

And finally, no dilapidated mall is complete without a long-shuttered RadioShack.

Though Wicked Local Medford reports that the mall is a popular spot for many community groups, its final day of operation is February 1.
