70-year-old arrested in connection with murder of elderly Wareham man

A 70-year-old man was arrested on Friday in connection with the murder of an elderly man who was shot in his Wareham home earlier this week, according to District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s office.

John Witty, of Berkley, was arraigned around 2 p.m. in Wareham District Court, according to the DA’s office. He pleaded not guilty to one count of murder, and was held without bail.

Police were asked to check on the elderly victim, John Williams II, 70, who lived on Glen Charlie Road, around noon on Tuesday. When they arrived, police said they found the victim bleeding from multiple wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation determined that Wittey, who was acquainted with Williams, allegedly stabbed the victim once and shot him 10 times.
