A budget officer for the Northborough-Southborough School District allegedly stole more than $200,000 from district accounts, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office.
Christopher Hoey, 34, of Stow, was arraigned in Westborough District Court on Thursday on charges of larceny over $250 by common scheme, embezzlement of a public official, and uttering. He was held on $100,000 bail, according to the DA’s office.
Authorities said the Northborough-Southborough school superintendent contacted state police detectives assigned to the DA’s office to report what appeared to be theft of school funds. A complete forensic audit is underway and police are continuing to investigate, according to authorities.
