1 dead after car goes into water by UMass Boston

A 25-year-old man from Lawrence was found dead inside a car submerged in the water behind the UMass Boston campus on Saturday.

State police said they were notified by campus police around noon Saturday that there was a car in the water. Once officers reached the car, they found the man, alone, inside.

Police said preliminary information from the investigation indicated the car crashed through a chain link fence before careening into the water.

The Suffolk District Attorney’s office said in a statement that the man’s body showed “no obvious signs of violent trauma’’ and that his cause of death has yet to be determined. Authorities said his death is being investigated as a non-homicide.
