The motel "sustained extensive roof damage," according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.

Storms pummeled areas of Cape Cod Tuesday afternoon, and guests staying at the Cape Sands Inn in West Yarmouth got an up-close look at the power of Mother Nature.

The motel “sustained extensive roof damage,” the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said in a situational awareness statement Tuesday afternoon.

“The National Weather Service (NWS) radar reported tornado touchdown in Harwich and South Yarmouth this afternoon,” the statement said. “The NWS has deployed a survey team to Yarmouth and South Harwich.”

According to Yarmouth police, no significant injuries were reported immediately following the severe weather.
