December barely had time to arrive before winter weather followed in short order Sunday, resulting in accumulating snow in many areas and wet, sloppy conditions in Greater Boston.

Here’s what it looked like as the first real snowfall rolled in, and people prepared for a two-day event sure to leave New Englanders grumbling.
