The Toronto Sun is sending its warmest anniversary wishes today, the one-year point since Toronto mayor Rob Ford’s apparent sweet tooth for crack cocaine was first made public.
Amazingly, Ford has maintained his mayorship throughout the rough duration.
Ford’s brother, Doug, a Toronto City Councillor, didn’t exactly rejoice at the fact that it’s been 12 months since his brother’s first public shaming, The Sun reported.
"I can't look backwards on what Rob has done or if he was or wasn’t under the influence of anything," Ford told the Toronto Sun Thursday. "My number one priority is to make sure Rob is healthy."
Doug Ford was, of course, referring to his brother being treated for substance abuse at an undisclosed rehab facility.
Ford did ultimately admit he had smoked crack before, but promised the transgression was a one-time slip up.
In the year since being outed via video, more video regularly surfaced of Ford exhibiting crackhead-like behavior.
Such as this recently-released gem, where Ford went on an expletive-laced rant in a bar while demanding more shots of liquor.
That shining moment was preceded by another video showing what appear to be Ford actually smoking crack.
And who could forget about the time he appeared quite intoxicated at a fast food restaurant while speaking in a Jamaican patois?
Or when Ford started boogeying at a City Council meeting…?
The past 36 weeks has literally been a nonstop rollercoaster for Ford, although the lows of the ride he’s been on have ironically been because of his [alleged] highs.
Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong said the year-long odyssey has been a distraction, reported The Sun.
"We've had a really difficult year in terms of the image of this city and the image of city council," Minnan-Wong said. "Hopefully now that the mayor is in rehab and we have an election underway, we'll be able to move past that and move beyond it."
It’s doubtful, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
