After a slow start in Friday night's Central Mass. Division 1 quarterfinal against Shrewsbury, Wachusett Regional's youthful girls' basketball team, with three sophomores in the starting lineup, played like a group of savvy seniors. The Mountaineers' defense limited the sixth seeded Colonials to five field goals in the second half, while sophomore center Rachel Aho scored seven of her team-high 11 points in the fourth quarter, helping third-seeded Wachusett gain a 44-33 victory at home. The defending champion Mountaineers (17-4) play second-seeded Algonquin Regional (18-3) in a semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Clark University. "We've got a young team and this is their first go-around at this with the roles that they have," Wachusett coach Jim Oxford said.
