GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Notre Dame (Worcester) 69, Oakmont 63

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Ashburnham

Meg Sullivan scored 15 of her game-high 23 points in the second half and overtime, including the game-winning 3-pointer in the extra session as the ninth-seeded Rebels (12-9) outlasted the eighth-seeded Spartans (12-9) in a thriller in Ashburnham. Notre Dame plays at top-seeded Tyngsboro in a quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Friday. Senior Rachel Quaye scored 20 points in her final game for Oakmont, with junior teammate Amanda Wood also finishing with 20 points. The Spartans led by six at the half, 35-29, and held the lead until the Rebels took their first lead of the game with six minutes left. The teams traded leads throughout the final quarter, with Notre Dame taking a three-point lead in the closing seconds. Wood, fouled on a 3-point attempt with one second left, hit all three free throws to force overtime, despite an attempt to ice her after the second shot. Quaye opened OT with a free throw, but Sullivan answered with her fourth 3-pointer and NDA turned up the defensive pressure to hold off the hosts. Senior forward Meaghan Delorey finished with 6 points and a team-high 9 rebounds for the Spartans.
