The host Foxboro girls’ lacrosse team defeated Hockomock League foe King Philip, 13-3, Friday afternoon, but there was something off about coach Brittany Jamieson-Sherry’s squad for parts of the game. Then the coach subbed out junior midfielder Katie Notarangelo, the team’s leading scorer, midway through the second half.“It’s in your head and it’s in everyone else’s head,” Jamieson-Sherry told Notarangelo on the sideline. “Go in there and get it over with.”“It” was the 100th goal of Notarangelo’s scholastic career, and after finding the back of the net twice in the first 30 minutes she was sitting on 99.It didn’t take long for Notarangelo to follow her coach’s orders. With 13:11 to go, she took a pass in the middle of the field, deked around a pair of KP defenders and put the ball in the lower left corner for the hat trick and Foxboro (10-1) took a 10-1 lead.King Philip (5-7) then allowed Foxboro to pause the game briefly so Notarangelo could receive a bouquet of flowers and take pictures with her coach and teammates. “I was a little nervous, but I knew I’d get it eventually,” Notarangelo said. “And with a great team it’s easy.”Foxboro got off to a rough start, spotting KP a 1-0 lead and much of the momentum within minutes of the game starting. But after Foxboro sophomore attackman Marybeth Sweeney scored two goals 29 seconds apart for a 2-1 lead 10 minutes in, Foxboro never looked back.
