The top-seeded Pioneers (18-3) are headed back to the Central Mass. final after holding off a late comeback attempt by the two-time defending champion Tomahawks (16-7), who closed it to 6-5 a minute into the fourth quarter. Hunter Burdick and Drew Smiley each had a goal and an assist for St. John's, which went ahead, 6-1, midway through the third quarter and held on. The Pioneers will face second-seeded Grafton High in the district final back at Foley Stadium at 3 p.m. Saturday. Senior Jake Scearbo had four goals to lead No. 5 seed Algonquin, while classmate Keegan Gillis had two goals and an assist.
