Fitchburg 21, Wachusett 7

Friday, Sep. 20, 2013, at Fitchburg

The Fitchburg High Red Raiders controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball en route to a convincing 21-7 victory over Wachusett Regional last night at Crocker Field. Fitchburg kept pounding the Mountaineer defense with the backfield duo of Julio Gonzalez and Demetrius Williams who combined for 193 yards on the ground, sustaining long drives that ate up yardage and the clock. On defense, the interior line thwarted the Mountaineer’s running game, forcing quarterback Owen Gibbons to the air in search of first downs. But, Fitchburg defensive back Nik Myles seemed to be wherever the ball was thrown, intercepting Gibbons three times to squelch any momentum. “Our front played great,” said Fitchburg coach Dan Walker. “They couldn’t run the ball so they had to throw it and we made plays. Nik Myles did an unbelievable job with three interceptions.”
