FIELD HOCKEY

Auburn 2, Quaboag 0

Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Auburn

From the sunny, warm afternoons of September to the November freeze-outs under the lights, the fun continues for the unbeaten Auburn High field hockey team. The top-seeded Rockets defeated fourth-seeded Quaboag, 2-0, in the Central Mass. Division 2 semifinals Monday night on the frosty Lunenburg High turf. Auburn now advances to the Division 2 final against Littleton at 5:30 Thursday at Grafton High We faced a very good opponent, but I kept reminding our players that they were playing a game that they love, and they should just enjoy it and have fun, said Auburn coach Bethann Cormier. Fun as in running their terrific record to 21-0, scoring once in each half and effectively thwarting the Quaboag attack. The Cougars finished at 17-4. This feels awesome because weve been waiting for this (CMass final) since we were freshmen, said senior tri-captain Paige Laperle. It was one and done last year in the quarterfinals. This year we came out ready. Auburn junior Carly Zona netted the first goal, 7:03 into the game on a rebound off the pads of Quaboag goalie Abi Cote, who was pressured with 12 shots in the game.
