The Westboro girl’s soccer team roared out to a 3-0 halftime lead that proved too much for Wachusett to overcome in last night Division 1 Girl’s semifinal soccer game at Commerce Bank Field at Foley Stadium. Last night’s win by the Rangers set up a Division 1 showdown with Algonquin at 3 p.m. Saturday at Wachusett, an elated Westboro coach Paul Mumby said after the game. Last night’s win gives the Rangers a chance to avenge their only loss of the season, Mumby said. Algonquin beat Westboro 4-3 earlier this season. Westboro and Wachusett tied 1-1 previously this year and Mumby told his players after the game that he was very proud of them. “This was a fantastic win for us,” Mumby said before adding that four of his players sustained injuries last night and it is unclear if they will be able to play Saturday. The Rangers scored two goals in less than 90 seconds midway through the first half to up their lead to 3-0. Westboro’s first goal was scored by freshman Emily Longo less than seven minutes into the game when she lofted a goal into the upper right corner of the net over the oustretched arms of Mountaineer goalie Becca Mills.
