Since their 1-0 loss to Northbridge in last year’s Division 2 finals on penalty kicks, the Holy Name girls’ soccer team has hoped for a rematch with the Rams. They earned that shot after outlasting second-seeded Millbury 1-0 tonight in the Division 3 semifinals at Lunenburg High School, making a first half goal by Maria Monje stand up. Sixth-seeded Holy Name (12-4-2) will meet top-seeded Northbridge (17-1-2) in a rematch of last year’s championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Foley Stadium. The Woolies finished 16-4-0. “I’m pleased with the win, but I think Millbury made us not play well,” said Holy Name coach Bob Manzello. “We had a hard time trying to work the ball into our striker, because of the way they played his defense. They were overpowering one side with four midfielders, always going strong side.” Another reason why the score was only 1-0 was thanks to the outstanding play of Millbury’s eighth grade goal keeper Gabby Hunt, who came through with several sensational saves. “Their keeper kept them in the game and she made four unbelievable saves,” said Manzello. “We may have had the better chances, but their goalie did a fantastic job.”
