Right place, right time. So much of soccer, it seems, is simply being in position in front of the goal to receive the ball and having the ability to kick or head it into the net. Sutton High junior Eve Goulet managed to do both on Saturday when it mattered most, scoring two goals to lift the Suzies to the Division 4 state title, 2-1, over Austin Prep at Foley Stadium. Goulet’s first goal, a nifty goal-line header on the far post off a Alexa Elworthy corner kick, made it 1-0 Suzies in 13th minute. Her second tally, an unassisted rocket that saw her boot in her own rebound from 8 yards out, broke a 1-1 tie with 8:20 left in the first half and gave Sutton its first state championship in four tries. “We’ve been in this position (in the state final) two times in the last three years, so I knew if we took advantage of every opportunity that we would score,” Goulet said. “I was in the right position at the right time. I was in the PK area and I kept my head over the ball and I got (the shot) right on the middle of the net. Luckily, their defender hit it back out and I just popped it back in.”
