BOYS’ HOCKEY

Malden Catholic 11, Catholic Memorial 0

Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Malden

Malden Catholic celebrated senior night with a bang. The Lancers shut out Catholic Conference rival Catholic Memorial, 11-0. Twelve players recorded a point for top-ranked MC (14-3-0). Its another step in the season to get where we ultimately want to go, said assistant coach Patrick Driscoll. Its just another two points. It took a solid effort by junior goalie Alex Reissis for the Lancers to establish a foothold. He was tested early as the Lancers killed off two 5-on-3 penalties in the first period. MC scored six goals in the first, including a hat trick by sophomore and Northeastern commit Matt Filipe. Less than a minute into the second period, Malden Catholic had a 7-0 lead, Ara Nazarian tallying his second goal. The Lancers maintained heavy pressure on the fourth-ranked Knights (9-5-3), and after two, the score was 9-0. I think its great for the seniors to go out that way, Driscoll said. Just a good, solid team win.
