GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Holy Name 56, Springfield Central 48

Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Worcester

Chances are, Holy Name girls' basketball standout Ama Biney will remember her last regular-season game in a Naps' uniform for a long time. Biney, a senior, reached goals most high school hoopsters only dream about in the final of the 12th Annual Westboro Invitational Friday night, eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her high school career, netting a game-high 21 points and earning tournament MVP honors in leading two-time defending champion Holy Name to a comeback 56-48 victory over Springfield Central at Westboro High School. "I was just focused on playing the game - I knew that the points would come," Biney said. "All I had to do was play my game. But my teammates help me out a lot. They do what they can to help me, and I do what I can to help them." Holy Name (20-1) got standout games from frontcourt stalwarts Brianna Frias and Monica Viapiano. Frias, a senior center, tossed in 11 points and was game-long defensive force. Viapiano, a sophomore center, scored 10 points and battled under the boards all game. Meanwhile, senior point-guard Aryauna Perez worked the ball around and defended well.
