Behind two goals from senior forward Justin Hirschfield, the Warriors had enough cushion to fight off a last-minute rally from Canton at Gallo Arena Sunday to capture the Division 2 South title. “We knew it was never going to be easy,” Medfield coach Toby Carlow said. “We did the little things that we needed to do and executed on the chances they gave us.” Hirschfield scored his first goal 13:56 into the first period, putting a rebound off his own miss past Bulldogs goalie Justin Slocum. He beat Slocum again 7:10 into the second period, with sophomore forward Matt Treiber assisting. “The first goal was huge,” Hirschfield said. “It was definitely a big lift for our team, boosted everyone’s confidence and then we got going after that.” Senior forward Matt Dresens’s power-play goal 7:36 into third period made the score 3-0 and proved to be the difference for Medfield (18-3-3). Senior defenseman Anthony Francescon and sophomore forward John Femia each scored in the third period to fuel the late comeback attempt for Canton (15-5-4).
