A Charlestown brownstone previously owned by former Boston Bruin center David Krejčí is putting upward pressure on neighborhood home prices.

The 4,516-square-foot home at 42 Harvard St. officially closed Monday, according to George Sarkis, a broker with Douglas Elliman who represented Krejčí in the off-market transaction. The asking price was $3,999,000, but the property sold for slightly above that at $4,046,000. The transaction is the highest sales price for a single-family home in Charlestown history, Sarkis said. A search of the Multiple Listing Service could not find a property in the past 30 years that sold for a higher price in Charlestown, but the database does not include off-market sales.

The price may be a record for Charlestown, but the neighborhood is still a relative bargain for those with the budget for a single-family home in the city. Krejčí’s sale equates to just under $900 per square foot.

“Charlestown is really the only place in Boston right now where you can buy a brownstone on a gas-lit street and with deeded parking for under $1,000 a square foot,” Sarkis said. “People are still seeing the value in Charlestown.”

Along with a high-end kitchen, office space, and two walk-in closets to the primary suite, the brownstone features a private roof deck. But the surrounding neighborhood is a major draw for single-family living in Charlestown.

Neighborhood amenities like dog parks, restaurants, city views from the Bunker Hill Monument, and easy access to the waterfront as well as Charlestown Navy Yard typically attract buyers, Sarkis said.

“Obviously, David Krejčí was a longtime Boston Bruin, and he loved the neighborhood,” he added.

The home sale signals yet another departure of a longtime Greater Boston athlete.

Krejčí played for the Bruins for 15 seasons before announcing last month he wouldn’t return, opting to play for a team in his home country of the Czech Republic. Tom Brady’s 12,112-square-foot mansion in Brookline also sold in an off-market transaction at the end of last year following his departure from the New England Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
