Biggest sales: A 16-room Newton Colonial with a carriage house for $4.22 million

Topping last week’s list of priciest sales is a 9,256-square-foot residence sitting on 0.82 acres in Newton.
On Wednesday, March 20, Deborah M. Gordon of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage sold 340 Hammond St. for $4,225,000.
The Colonial houses a whopping 16 rooms, including six bedrooms and six full baths, as well as two half baths. Built in 1890 by local architecture firm Winslow, Wetherell & Bigelow, the estate was updated by Boston contractor Payne Bouchier.
Behind the main residence lies the treasure trove of the property. A carriage house with a four-car garage, the original stables, and a workshop. A separate apartment boasting three bedrooms and 1.5 baths offers more than 3,000 square feet of space.
