After 27 holes of golf, a tennis match on a watered clay court, a swim in the Olympic-sized pool, chilling in the hot tub, or a spin on a stationary bike, there’s just one last thing to do — go home. And in this case, that means a house nestled between two golf holes, yet still private thanks to a stockade fence surrounding the 0.54-acre lot.
This house is in Willowbend, a gated community on some 500 acres with cranberry bogs marbled into its golf courses. Designed by architect Mark Hutker, the house has a spot in the garage for a car and a golf cart, as well as a backyard with a built-in pool (check out the waterfall), a hot tub, and a cabana.
The main entry leads to an awe-inspiring place: a great room with windows in barrel insets, built-in cabinetry, and a ceiling two stories up that’s completely free of timbers and columns. It’s so high that a Celtic could shoot 3-pointers in there with ease. The space also features a two-sided fireplace with black soapstone surrounds and wooden mantels. The walls are board and batten.
A five-wall, window-lined room with a whitewashed-wood ceiling juts out from the great room. A Ping-Pong table sits comfortably inside.
On the other side of the great room chimney column is the dining room fireplace. The room has beverage and wine refrigerators.
The space seamlessly flows into a gorgeous eat-in kitchen with a 9-foot ceiling. Solid wood cabinetry by Christopher Peacock painted a calming white features stainless-steel cup pulls that evoke an old-time grocer’s counter where wonder waited within each drawer. A long island topped with hardwood dissects the space. It has a sink and sits under three pendant lights.
Cabinets topped with marble flank a high-end stainless-steel gas range. A long counter slips under windows along another wall. The counter is topped with oak, as well as marble slotted for use as a drying rack on either side of the farmhouse sink. A comfy breakfast space is nestled into a bump-out.
The flooring throughout much of the first floor is oak stained espresso.
The first-floor master suite is in a private back corner of the house. The bedroom, which has a peaked ceiling, offers a walk-in closet, a deck overlooking the backyard, and a bath that has a dual vanity with porcelain sinks, a deep jetted tub, and a shower with a clear-glass door, a seat, and a ceramic tile surround.
The stairs to the second floor are wood with a carpet runner. This level houses a media room with built-in cabinetry (with windows overlooking the great room) and three bedrooms. One has an en-suite bath; the others share one.
The basement is unfinished.
Willowbend is a community of roughly 210 homes. Owners have to pay for golf, tennis, social activities, and to use the neighborhood pool.
