Curt and Shonda Schilling list their Medfield home for $1.89 million

His famous “bloody sock” isn’t part of the deal, but the Medfield home of former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and his wife, Shonda, is on the market for $1,899,900.

Tucked inside Woodcliff Estates, 3 Sturbridge Road is a five-bedroom home that measures 6,503 square feet on 1.14 acres. When the Schilling family moved into the house seven years ago, Shonda overhauled the property, turning it into a welcoming home for a busy family.

“It just made it a comfortable space,” she told Boston.com Thursday. “At no point do you feel like you can’t go in there or you have to take your shoes off or anything.”

Built in 2004, the home welcomes guests in a stylish entryway, where a staircase winds up to the second level. A big, open kitchen has a large island with bar seating, as well as top-of-the-line appliances like a six-burner gas stove, double ovens, and two dishwashers. A sunny dining area overlooks the backyard under skylights. In the family room, a  stone fireplace anchors the space, which has built-ins and numerous windows that stream in natural light. A sunroom is an added bonus, boasting a wall of windows overlooking the expansive yard. There is also a home office, a formal dining room, a formal living room, three full baths, and two half baths.

The spacious primary suite offers a comfortable bedroom with a fireplace, as well as an adjoining bath with a soaking tub, separate shower, and dressing area. The walk-in closet has an island and extensive storage.

The basement level offers a diner-style bar area, a screening area, and additional home office space. There is also a gym and another bonus room with extensive storage.

As for Shonda’s favorite spot in the house, she cites the room that holds all her holiday decorations.

“It’s funny because one of my favorite things is one that probably most people won’t look at because it’s hidden, but I have a decorating room that holds all my decorations for the holidays,” she said. “And I love my bathroom. I’m going to miss my bathroom. I’m going to miss the sunroom.”

The fenced-in backyard, which abuts Rocky Woods Reservation, is a stunning outdoor living area. From the deck, continue down to a bluestone patio that overlooks a swimming pool with a water feature. The fire pit is a perfect conversation area, and the flat, grassy backyard filled with lush landscaping and a gazebo is as picturesque as it gets.

“The birds and hummingbirds would come right up on the porch while we were eating,” Shonda said. “It’s very peaceful.”

Back in March, Curt told USA Today that he and his wife were moving to Tennessee because “outside of our circle of friends, it hasn’t been a real pleasant experience in Boston,” Boston.com previously reported. “His social media presence in recent years has made him a lightning rod,” Christopher Price reported.

The family chose to stay in Medfield due to the “amazing” school system, Shonda said. Now that their youngest child is graduating in two weeks, the couple is ready to head to Tennessee, where Shonda’s mother’s family has roots.

“We always were going to move away, and we knew Tennessee was cost-effective,” Shonda said. “My mom passed away 18 months ago, and then I got breast cancer, and I just finished that, and I said: ‘I want to keep doing what we were going to do. I’m going to do it for my mom.’ In between chemo we went down and found a place, and my dad is going to be living on the property.”

While they’ll miss their friends in Medfield, Shonda said she has “no regrets” about their time there.

“As a picturesque sort of childhood for the kids, I think it was perfect,” she said.
