Bruins-Penguins Game 1

Nathan Horton zipped a third-period shot past Tomas Vokoun to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals in Pittsburgh. The Bruins went on to win by the same score.

Sidney Crosby and Zdeno Chara exchanged words at the end of the second period after Crosby bumped Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask as he skated off the ice. The officials prevented the moment from escalating into a fight.

The Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin and the Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron dropped the gloves at the end of the second period, which ended with a series of confrontations after some heated play on both ends of the ice.

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead in the first period when a shot by David Krejci (not pictured) got through Penguins goalie Tomas Vokoun.

Penguins goon Matt Cooke was tossed out of the game for this check on Adam McQuaid in the second period. McQuaid left the ice briefly but then returned to action.

Matt Cooke received a boarding penalty and a game misconduct for his hit on Adam McQuaid.

Linesmen had to separate the Penguins’ Sidney Crosby and the Bruins’ Zdeno Chara (33) during the first period of Game 1.

Andrew Ference celebrated after David Krejci scored the first goal of the Eastern Conference finals.

Penguins goalie Tomas Vokoun made a save against Brad Marchand in the second period.

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Bruins center Patrice Bergeron spent a good portion of Game 1 engaged in a head-to-head battle.

The Bruins weren’t entirely on their own for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals in Pittsburgh, as this group turned out to represent Boston.
