What’s happened to the 2011 Stanley Cup-winning Bruins?
With the departure of forward Chris Kelly in free agency, the Bruins are down one more member of the Stanley Cup-winning team of 2011.
Kelly, who was acquired by the Bruins from the Ottawa Senators at the trade deadline in 2011, will return to Ottawa on a one-year deal for $900,000. With his departure, it means that only six players who won the Stanley Cup in Boston are still with the team.
Roster attrition is not unusual for a team over five years, regardless of the sport. The 2004 Red Sox were an even more stark example. Five years later in 2009, only four members of the ’04 World Series team were left.

Patrice Bergeron: Still with the Bruins

Dennis Seidenberg: contract was bought out by the Bruins earlier in 2016.
Mark Stuart: traded to the Atlanta Thrashers during the 2010-2011 season
Tim Thomas: announced he was taking a break from hockey after the 2012 playoffs, and his contract was traded to the New York Islanders in 2013
Shawn Thornton: left in free agency for the Florida Panthers
Blake Wheeler: traded to the Atlanta Thrashers during the 2010-2011 season
