The Bruins, starved for scoring in the absence of star pivot Patrice Bergeron, gave Ryan Donato a chance to prove what he’s learned about the NHL game.

Donato, who scored 1 goal in 11 games before a demotion to AHL Providence, got the call Wednesday in advance of Thursday’s game against the New York Islanders.

The Bruins, who have scored 11 goals in their last six games (3-1-2), could use some of the skate-and-shoot the winger from Harvard showed down on the farm (5-4–9 in 10 AHL games post-demotion). The finer details of Donato’s game weren’t up to par, coach Bruce Cassidy remarked when he was sent down a month ago, but this is a club that hasn’t been able to find the net of late.
