Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara is on the road to recovery, despite still being a couple weeks away from his injury reevaluation.

Chara injured his left MCL during a game against the Avalanche on Nov. 14, and the team announced Chara would be evaluated four weeks after the injury. The exact timetable for Chara’s return to the ice is unknown.

The captain shared a picture on his personal Instagram page Wednesday night, giving fans some hope that his comeback may be sooner rather than later.

“Back in the gym,” the caption reads. “Step by step towards the progress. Focus. Patience. Healing.”

Chara also spoke with the media for the first time since his injury at the Champions for Children’s Gala on Tuesday night.

“That’s the way it is,” Chara said of his injury. “We all wish not to have any challenges, but unfortunately they do happen and we do have to deal with them. I think guys are fighting really hard for every point we can get…hopefully this is going to be enough and we all get healthy as a team and get on a roll.”
