The Blue Jackets have been off since April 16 after sweeping the heavily favored Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round.
The regular-season series between Boston and Columbus ended 1-1-1. In their most recent meeting, on April 2, the Bruins earned a 6-2 win on the road. The Bruins also defeated Columbus in overtime, 2-1, on March 16, after dropping the opening game of their series, 7-4, in Columbus on March 12.
The Blue Jackets have won 11 of their last 12 games, with a loss to Boston their only setback. Boston is 6-6 in the same stretch.
It is the first playoff series between the teams, but the Bruins have some familiarity against Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella, who was the Rangers coach in 2012-13 and lost to the Bruins in the conference semifinals, 4 games to 1.
