NBA fines Marcus Smart for ‘obscene gesture’

Celtics guard Marcus Smart was fined $15,000 by the NBA for “making an obscene gesture’’ during Friday night’s contest against the New York Knicks, league executive vice president of basketball operations Kiki VanDeWeghe announced on Monday.

According to VanDeWeghe, the incident occurred just before Smart received a technical foul with 1:49 to play in the third quarter of the game.

The 22-year-old guard is averaging 9.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in his second season with the Celtics.
