Though he ultimately didn’t get a chance to play on the same team as Gordon Hayward, Isaiah Thomas still has a connection with one of the new Celtics. And while Hayward’s debut was marred by a fractured ankle, he received support from Thomas.
Thomas, who is still recovering from an injury of his own, asserted that Hayward suffered a “minor setback” and will see a “major comeback”:
Woke up this morning praying hard for my guy @gordonhayward … Minor setback for a MAJOR comeback my brotha, all love from me! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Hayward chose Boston over the summer prior to the groundbreaking Kyrie Irving-Isaiah Thomas trade. In his goodbye to Utah, Hayward explained that part of his decision to choose Boston in free agency was down to a “talented roster,” singling out Thomas as one of the reasons.
Thomas also reportedly visited Hayward in the locker room following the first quarter injury:
Isaiah Thomas, who recruited Hayward to Boston over summer, has also been with him in locker room.
