Former Celtics center Greg Monroe has agreed to a one-year, $2.2 million deal with the Toronto Raptors, Yahoo Sports reported Monday.

Last February, the Celtics signed Monroe to a one-year, $5 million deal using the hardship exception they received following Gordon Hayward’s season-ending ankle injury. Monroe averaged 10.2 points and 6.3 rebounds over 19 regular-season games, but he never established a notable role and his workload was reduced considerably in the playoffs, when he averaged 4.8 points and 3.2 rebounds over just 9.5 minutes while appearing in just 11 of 19 games.

The Raptors, who finished four games ahead of Boston in the conference standings last season, are once again viewed as the Celtics’ top competition in the East, particularly after they acquired Kawhi Leonard from the Spurs last month.
