It will be a full weekend for Celtics forward Jayson Tatum at All-Star Weekend in Charlotte, as he was invited to and will participate in the Skills Challenge during the Saturday session, according to an NBA source.

Tatum, 20, is also expected to participate in the Rising Stars Challenge on Feb. 15 at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center. The invitation for Tatum to the Skills Challenge is a sign of respect for his ascension in the league.

Tatum entered Wednesday night at the Celtics’ second-leading scorer at 16.4 points per game and was shooting 37.8 percent from the 3-point line. He played in last year’s Rising Stars Challenge in Los Angeles.

“I was like a kid in a candy store,’’ Tatum said of his All-Star experience as a rookie. “I met a lot of players, ex-players, and celebrities. It was a great time.’’

Tatum said he will approach this All-Star weekend the same as last year, trying to enjoy himself as well as get some rest and win any contest in which he’s participating.

“Just get out there and have fun, that’s what All-Star Weekend is about,’’ Tatum said. “I’m going to try to win everything.’’

The official list of participants for All-Star events should be announced next week.
