In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston on April 16, 2018. Are you running Boston? Here’s how to share your story on Boston.com.

Running the Boston Marathon was always a dream of mine. It’s the most prestigious marathon in the world. Growing up I played field hockey, all the way through college. That was until I suffered a career-ending injury my senior year of college in the form of a broken kneecap. With that came the motivation for a comeback and to run and run some more.
For the Boston Marathon I am running for Team Eye and Ear, which is the charity team through Massachusetts Eye and Ear hospital. Mass. Eye and Ear conducts groundbreaking research to cure illnesses of the eyes, ears, neck, and throat. I am running and fundraising in honor of both my aunt and uncle who were both born deaf. I am also running in memory of my grandfather whose life was taken at the age of 59 by thyroid cancer. His death left a void in our family that will never be filled, fundraising for Mass. Eye and Ear will aid in the research to finding a cure for this cancer.
I could not be more honored to be running the Boston Marathon and helping others in the process. I cannot wait to take the streets of Boston in April!!!
