Mark your calendars: The 2019 Boston Marathon is April 15, 2019.

To qualify, runners must meet time standards corresponding to their age and gender, according to the Boston Athletic Association. Qualifying times must be completed during an outdoor marathon on or after September 16, 2017. The minimum age requirement to run the Boston Marathon is 18 years old by the date of the race. Age groups are determined by age on the date of the 2019 race.

“Achieving one’s qualifying standard does not guarantee entry into the event, but simply the opportunity to submit for registration,” the BAA notes on its website. “In recent years, not all qualifiers who submit an entry have been accepted due to field size restrictions.”
